Italian Coffee

Italian coffee generally refers to the dark roasted blends that have been found in the region since the 1500s. At that time Turkey was the region most known for coffee, and some of those blends found their way to Italy as well.

Italian coffee and espresso are usually made with the same roasting methods. The main difference between the two is the grind of the beans (more finely ground for espresso, a medium grind for Italian coffee). If you purchase Italian roast coffee in America, usually that designation refers to this particular roasting process and grind.

If you order coffee in Italy, you will automatically be brought out espresso. It is a common drink there and consumed throughout the day. If you want a cup of coffee as you would get in America, you simply need to specify.
